Series: The Fine Art of Pretending #1

Description:
According to the guys at Fairfield Academy, there are two types of girls: the kind you hook up with, and the kind you're friends with. Seventeen-year-old Alyssa Reed is the second type. And she hates it. With just one year left to change her rank, she devises a plan to become the first type by homecoming, and she sets her sights on the perfect date—Justin Carter, Fairfield Academy’s biggest hottie and most notorious player.

With 57 days until the dance, Aly launches Operation Sex Appeal and sheds her tomboy image. The only thing left is for Justin actually to notice her. Enter best friend Brandon Taylor, the school’s second biggest hottie, and now Aly’s pretend boyfriend. With his help, elevating from “funny friend” to “tempting vixen” is only a matter of time.

But when everything goes according to plan, the inevitable “break up” leaves their friendship in shambles, and Aly and Brandon with feelings they can’t explain. And the fake couple discovers pretending can sometimes cost you the one thing you never expected to want.

Review:
You ever start reading something and you just know that this upcoming scheme is going to be a disaster but you can’t help but read exactly what is going to happen because that’s the best part, well yeah that is exactly what this book is.  A disaster waiting to happen but it was absolutely adorable and cute and just a feel good kind of book that I definitely needed after reading something so intense and dire.  Rachel Harris did a really great job of bringing these characters to life and just made me enjoy the story through and through.

We meet Aly who is kind of popular but feels too much like one of the guys and is ready for her senior year to crack that shell and blossom into a woman that guys actually want to hook up with.  From this reasoning the operation sex appeal is born, can we say disaster waiting to happen, but oh what fun we will have getting to the end point.  Brandon is the second hottest guy in her school and is also her best friend with his help as her pretend boyfriend she feels that she can finally get a date with the hottest boy in school by becoming what they call a casual.

Aly’s plan including pretending to date her best friend Brandon to push her hook up status higher and get Justin to notice her.  But during their time things changed, things happened and situations occurred.  You really have to read the book to find out but I’m sure you know how disastrous things turned out between the two best friends.  When it wasn’t something it was something else but the two of them have a strong chemistry to begin with and that is why they were best friends to begin with.  I think they were just in denial.

The overall story isn’t something terribly original, but even still it was absolutely adorable and cute and I couldn’t put the book down at all because I had a smile on my face the whole time.  Definitely one of those feels good romantic comedies that you just can’t help but read or watch.  I loved this and I can’t wait to read the next one in this series because I just know it’s going to be just as fabulous.

I love the cover too; it’s cute and adorable just like the stories and the characters. Oh and let me just say there is NOTHING wrong with being one of the Commitments! It's commitments that make the most lasting impressions.  Always.
