Mini Reviews: Throne of Glass Novellas

So to celebrate me about to read the second book in the Throne of Glass series - Crown at Midnight, I've decided to go ahead and read some of the mini stories that Sarah J. Maas has put out there.  Below are reviews of a couple of them as I don't have all of them.  I'm gearing up to read the next book!!

The Assassin and the Pirate Lord (Throne of Glass, #0.1)
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Release Date: January 13, 2012
Description
A Throne of Glass novella.
On a remote island in a tropical sea, Celaena Sardothien, feared assassin, has come for retribution. She’s been sent by the Assassin’s Guild to collect on a debt they are owed by the Lord of the Pirates. But when Celaena learns that the agreed payment is not in money, but in slaves, her mission suddenly changes—and she will risk everything to right the wrong she’s been sent to bring about.

Review:
This mini novella really showed just how human Celaena is and how much she really cares about people even if she is an assassin.  It seems that she definitely knows the difference between right and wrong.  I loved reading about her and her adventures, and this novella was definitely an adventure for her and Sam.  There was even a slight interest in Sam, makes you wonder. Hmm. Really great view into Celaena's world pre Thrones of Glass.

The Assassin and the Desert (Throne of Glass, #0.2)
Release Date: March 30, 2012
Description:
The Silent Assassins of the Red Desert aren’t much for conversation, and Celaena Sardothien wouldn’t have it any other way. She’s not there to chatter, she’s there to hone her craft as the world’s most feared killer for hire. When the quiet is shattered by forces who want to destroy the Silent Assassins, Celaena must find a way to stop them, or she’ll be lucky to leave the desert alive.

Review:
I really enjoyed this story.  After her experience with the Pirate Lord she was punished and sent to the desert to learn from the silent assassins.  It was hard on her because she really is quite spoiled in the life she lives but didn't even realize it.  I think in this book she learned how to make friends, how to pay attention to every little detail and just be.  But she also learned what betrayal really was while keeping her compassion the same.  There seems to be a lot of lessons taught to her through these novellas and I can't wait to find out what happens in the next one.

The Assassin and the Underworld (Throne of Glass, #0.3)
Release Date: May 1, 2012
Description:
When the King of the Assassins gives Celaena Sardothien a special assignment that will help fight slavery in the kingdom, she jumps at the chance to strike a blow against an evil practice. The misson is a dark and deadly affair which takes Celaena from the rooftops of the city to the bottom of the sewer—and she doesn’t like what she finds there.

Review:
This by far has been my favorite novella so far, and can I just saw swoon. Swoon, swoon! Until I started reading these novellas I almost forgot what an amazing character Celaena really is, she's strong yet soft at the same time.  There are so many sides to her but what I love most is that she is still a compassionate person and really does care about things around her.  She has a heart. After returning from the desert she's back to face her feelings for Sam and to free herself from her master.

The Assassin and the Empire (Throne of Glass, #0.4)
Release Date: July 20, 2012
Description:
Celaena Sardothien is the assassin with everything: a place to call her own, the love of handsome Sam, and, best of all, freedom. Yet, she won’t be truly free until she is far away from her old master, Arobynn Hamel; Celaena must take one last daring assignment that will liberate her forever. But having it all, means you have a lot to lose . . .

This fourth fantastic e-novella gives readers an inside look at the characters who appear in the full-length novel Throne of Glass. Don’t miss out!

Review
My heart has broken to read about her adventures before going to Endovier. So much has happened to Celaena, both good and mostly bad.  The road that lead to her imprisonment was a sad one and I just wanted to grab some of the characters and just smack them across the head for being such mean people or just bad to her in general.  Arobynn is a jealous man who doesn't want anyone messing with his things and when that is disrupted he will be the first one to take all the good away from people.  This was just an epic trail to the first book and the author just bought a world out to everyone that you just lose yourself in.  Amazing read.
